To Charlie, Who Hears the Piper

PIPER

(Full Title: To Charlie, Who Hears The Piper)
Music and Lyrics by Mike
Fall, 1980

The Piper played his music but no one stopped to hear
He seemed to them a most peculiar man
Who danced among the alley-ways and played his different tunes
And hoped someday someone would understand
Piper, do I understand what your message means?
That countless worlds of light and love are but the stuff of dreams?

The Piper played his music and someone asked him why
He played of worlds no one could ever find
But the Piper kept on playing and the crowd just walked away
While Piper danced the worlds within his mind
Piper play your songs for me, show me a world most fair
Of courts and Kings and dragon’s wings and castles in the air.

The Piper played his music but some did not believe
They didn’t think a dream could ever be
So they put away the Piper and tried to let him know
The only world was one that they could see
Piper won’t you play again, if only for awhile?
They have took your pipes away, can you explain your smile?

So the Piper’s piping ended but the music never died
Echoes in the street still linger on

And to this day a few will hear and dream of far away
They understand the Piper’s lonely song
Piper, now I understand what your message means
That your music never dies as long as there are dreams

And Piper? Oh Piper…
Won’t you play a song for me?
