Stonehelm Anthem

Men of Stonehelm (1) all unsteady
On your feet and at the ready!
(Though it often has been said ye
Cannot find the floor…)
Raise your glass and quaff it!
Your nightshirt ye must doff it!
Leave your thoughts beside her cot
But get your bodies off it!
Oh, Men of Stonehelm come to battle!
(They are stealing all your cattle)
And your e’re more precious chattle
Wenches and your beer!

Stagger after fleeing foemen
Drunken knights and drunken yoemen!
(And some very drunken bowmen
Tangled up with twine…)
Stonehelm, hear your duty!
They’re fleeing with your booty!
Your wives you’ll miss but worse than this
Of wine the swine would loot ye!
Oh, Let them have the fields and towers!
(We’ll defend the casks and bowers)
Castles fall but nothing sours
Loving and good wine!

Filk (2) of “Men of Harlech”
Mike Reeseman 1983ish

NOTE1: “Stonehelm” was the household of Squire Avatar of Stonehelm, deceased. It’s an SCA thing.
NOTE2: Actually, this is a filk of a filk but I haven’t a clue what the intervening filk was or who wrote it. “Plagiarism” or “Homage”? –MR
