Can’t Go Home Again

I look around and see this is the same town
Held in time the way it’s always been
But I feel something has changed
I think it might be me
Should’ve listened to the highway
You can’t go home again

Talkin’ ’bout the weather
With friends I used to know
‘Cause I outgrew the tried & tested way
I grew into the habit of makin’ me a home
If I stayed in any one place
Longer than a day
Everything seems different now
But I know its still the same
Old familiar faces I don’t know
Come up to me and tell me all these stories
‘Bout a boy just yesterday
A young man who ran away
Y’know, I just might recognize him
I think it might be me
Should’ve listened to the highway
You can’t go home again

I look around and see this is the same town
Held in time the way it’s always been
But I feel something has changed
I think it might be me
Should’ve listened to the highway
You can’t go home again

Seeing things with mem’ry tinted glasses
Only makes it hurt to put them down
You feel a stranger out of place
In a house you once called home
To be born & raised and yet be called
The newest kid in town
I walk around the schoolyard
Hearin’ mem’ries from the past
Golden warmth for simpler days gone by
It seems almost a sad thing to have become a man
Well, who left me on my own?
Dared me to go alone?
I just might recognize him
I think he might be me
Should’ve listened to the highway
You can’t go home again

I look around and see this is the same damn town
Held in time the way it’s always been
But I feel something has changed
I think it might be me
Should’ve listened to the highway
You can’t go home again

Oh, no, you can’t go home again
The past will always hide it
Your heart will never find it
The best that you can do
Is to carry some with you
Or you can try to make a new way
In wherever you are today…
Or you can stay out on the highway
But you can’t go home again
Oh, no…
